Author Johnson narrates a moving series of scenes that speak of heavy emotions and touching nostalgia: “When I was selling dope out there, these white people came and asked me to get some dope for them that wasn’t the first time they came to me. Everybody loved it when white people came they spent lots of money, and they were easy prey. You could beat them easy. They didn’t know any better they were just happy to get some dope. At that time, there was no dope house across the eight-mile in the white neighborhood. They had to come to Detroit in the ghetto to get some dope. I never would beat them. I would give them just what the dope man gave me. I didn’t cut it or take any dope out, so when they saw me, they would run to me. On this day, this crazy, greedy b**** came up behind me and stabbed me in my back and said I was taking her customers. They were not her customers, and the white people said so. They had told her they wanted to deal with me. Some of them dope fiends were cutthroat it wasn’t always honor amongst thieves.
”Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, Sandra Archer Johnson’s evoking tale follows the life of a dope fiend, in a journey filled with life-changing moments relatable to prospective readers.
